Description
The Bridge Cottage property allows you the choice of one of two romantic co-joined cottages overlooking the historic Richmond Bridge: the Armoury Cottage and the Sergeant’s Cottage. The convict brick cottages are among the oldest buildings in Richmond.
The stunning Richmond village is just 15 minutes drive from Hobart Airport and 20 minutes from Hobart city. Our guests enjoy relaxing by an open fire, and enjoying complimentary port and chocolates after a day exploring our friendly village.
The cottages are located within walking distance of Richmond’s tourist attractions, Australia’s oldest bridge, historic buildings including the prison, St John’s Church (the oldest Catholic Church in Australia), craft shops, bakery, galleries, coffee shops, restaurants and much more. Don’t miss the old-fashioned lolly shop with its walls lined with jars and jars of your favorite treats. See the sights of Richmond at a different pace in a horse-drawn cart, pulled by draught horses.
Bridge Cottage is the ideal base to tour the central and eastern parts of Tasmania. Historic Port Arthur is a day-trip from Richmond. Our island state is compact, so you can see a lot in a short drive.
You’re so close to Hobart that you mustn’t miss the Saturday morning Salamanca Markets, where you can buy fabulous local produce and talk to craftspeople and artisans about their products. Depending on the time of year, you can enjoy waterfront attractions such as the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race, the Wooden Boat Festival, The Taste of Tasmania and MOFO Music and Arts Festival.
Take a drive up Mount Wellington to see an incredible vista down over Hobart over the River Derwent and to the north and east. Don’t miss the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA). It’s caused a huge splash in the international art scene with visitors coming from all over the world. It will take about 25 minutes by car to get there from Richmond.
