Description

Approximately 100km North of Adelaide, nestled in the Skilly hills, just 2 km’s from the township of Watervale in the beautiful Clare Valley, Hughes Park Cottage offers private self contained accommodation.

The two bedroom cottage originates from 1845 and is surrounded by beautiful vines and historic sheep farming country side - perfect for a stroll and a photographer’s delight.

Hughes Park Cottage sits amongst some of the Clare Valley’s top farming land and the Estate is home to around 5,000 merino sheep, some of which graze outside the kitchen window daily.

Guests will also enjoy seeing a range of wildlife on the property whilst at the accommodation or wandering around the Estate. Kangaroos, deer, rabbits, ducks, kookaburras, white cockatoos, pink galahs, along with the odd echidna have made the property their home also!

Imagine sitting on the verandah, taking in the afternoon sun and listening to hundreds of galahs circling overhead just before the sun sets and the night sky fills with thousand of stars, something one never sees in the city!

Since opening in April 2009, this beautiful Bed & Breakfast offers a special and unique experience to all guests. The property comprises a private self-contained cottage which is well positioned amongst gorgeous vineyards and majestic gums, and set on a historic Clare Valley Estate which dates back to 1845.

The minute guests arrive they feel they have discovered their own secluded piece of Clare Valley countryside. Quiet and relaxing with wildlife at their door, however in a matter of minutes guests can be savouring the region’s wines in one of the Valley’s historic Cellar Doors, or taking a relaxing ride along the well known Riesling Trail.

The Cottage:

The cottage verandah is very inviting with its large cane chairs, perfectly positioned to take in the afternoon sun. The front door opens to a welcoming lounge with large comfortable sofas, perfect for relaxing on and a large open fire place. And knowing how much everyone enjoys an open fire, there is a seemingly endless supply of firewood right outside the front door.

Guests then walk through to a large dining and kitchen area with floor to ceiling windows, which make the most of the Hans Heysen views of the magnificent gums which lie beyond. The kitchen is furnished with all the essentials – microwave, stove, oven, large fridge and plenty of bench space to cook up a storm!

Sleeping 4 people the cottage comprises a main bedroom with a Queen Size bed and the guest bedroom has two King single beds. The bedrooms all have fresh decor and fluffy pillows with thick goose down quilts and electric blankets take care of guests on chilly nights.

Two toilets and a lovely white bathroom complete the property. In the summer, guests can make use of the Weber barbecue under the side verandah and enjoy a dinner among the gum trees while listening to the laughing kookaburras overhead.
