Carol Matters invites you to enjoy a relaxed stay at the Spalding "Country bakehouse Accommodation". This century old bakehouse residence is tastefully renovated, blending antiques and modern furnishings for style & comfort.
Spalding is central to the wine region of Clare & the historic township of Burra & provides a base for day trips to the lower Flinders Ranges. Walkers and bike riding enthusiasts are welcome as the Mawson and Heysen trails meet at Spalding.
Uniquely situated near the Broughton River, a two night booking includes a "catch and release" permit for those who love Trout fishing.
Continental Breakfast provisions are included in the tarrif and a well equiped, country kitchen and gas BBQ are provided for your convenience.

The Country bakehouse is an ideal place for families to stay for short breaks & holidays. We provide a "home away from home" with lots of interesting reading materials, family board games, DVD's and a large screen satellite TV.
Attached to the residence, in the old bakehouse is an extra teen retreat or third bedroom for families and Trail walkers. This room is ideal for extra family members with a queen and two single beds provided. Two families of 4 can comfortably share weekend accommodation with 3 queen beds and two single beds.
Why not take a weekend break, go fishing or photograph the Broughton River, visit wineries or coffee shops in the Clare Valley or explore dugouts and underground tunnels at the historic mining town of Burra.
Travel North through Jamestown to visit the Railway Museum at Peterborough or South to the Historic town of Mintaro to lose yourself in the Maze or make a visit to Martindale Hall. Because we are central to so many Historic towns we are able to provide a comfortable retreat at the end of a day exploring the Mid North of SA.
Fishing & Small Town Experience
The Country bakehouse is situated in the small town of Spalding,178 km north of Adelaide and on the fringe of the Clare Valley. The Heysen & Mawson trails meet at Spalding and we have excellent sporting facilities including a Summer swimming pool, oval, tennis courts, parks and playground. There are historic Churches a Post Office and Primary School. The General store is open for take-a-way food, great coffee, evening meals fuel and postal services and meals are available at the Spalding Hotel Wednesday- Sunday.
The Fresh Water river flows through Spalding to join the Broughton downstream. Visitors can enjoy the river scenery and your accommodation includes a "catch & release" permit for trout fishing enthusiasts. If you are not a fishing enthusiast you could enjoy a day out along the river exploring the pools & why not take a picnic on a sunny Spring day. The Bundaleer reservoir is just 8 Km North West of Spalding if you enjoy fresh water fishing & Silver Perch. for dinner.

We had such a lovely stay in the Bakehouse. It was comfortable, tidy and had every amenity we could ask for. One of the nicest experiences I have had staying away. Thanks Carol for all your help. Highly reccomend!
