Carol Matters invites you to enjoy a relaxed stay at the Spalding "Country bakehouse Accommodation".  This century old bakehouse residence is tastefully renovated, blending antiques and modern furnishings for style & comfort.

Spalding is central to the wine region of Clare & the historic township of Burra & provides a base for day trips to the lower Flinders Ranges. Walkers and bike riding enthusiasts are welcome as the Mawson and Heysen trails meet at Spalding.

Uniquely situated near the Broughton River, a two night booking includes a "catch and release" permit for those who love Trout fishing.

Continental Breakfast provisions are included in the tarrif and a well equiped, country kitchen and gas BBQ are provided for your convenience.

The Country bakehouse is an ideal place for families to stay for short breaks & holidays. We provide a "home away from home" with lots of interesting reading materials, family board games, DVD's and a large screen satellite TV.

Attached to the residence, in the old bakehouse is an extra teen retreat or third bedroom for families and Trail walkers. This room is ideal for extra family members with a queen and two single beds provided. Two families of 4 can comfortably share weekend accommodation with 3 queen beds and two single beds.
Why not take a weekend break, go fishing or photograph the Broughton River, visit wineries or coffee shops in the Clare Valley or explore dugouts and underground tunnels at the historic mining town of Burra.

Travel North through Jamestown to visit the Railway Museum at Peterborough or South to the Historic town of Mintaro to lose yourself in the Maze or make a visit to Martindale Hall. Because we are central to so many Historic towns we are able to provide a comfortable retreat at the end of a day exploring the Mid North of SA.

Fishing & Small Town Experience

The Country bakehouse is situated in the small town of Spalding,178 km north of Adelaide and on the fringe of the Clare Valley. The Heysen & Mawson trails meet at Spalding and we have excellent sporting facilities including a Summer swimming pool, oval, tennis courts, parks and playground. There are historic Churches a Post Office and Primary School. The General store is open for take-a-way food, great coffee, evening meals fuel and postal services and meals are available at the Spalding Hotel Wednesday- Sunday.

The Fresh Water river flows through Spalding to join the Broughton downstream. Visitors can enjoy the river scenery and your accommodation includes a "catch & release" permit for trout fishing enthusiasts. If you are not a fishing enthusiast  you could enjoy a day out along the river exploring the pools & why not take a picnic on a sunny Spring day. The Bundaleer reservoir is just 8 Km North West of Spalding if you enjoy fresh water fishing & Silver Perch. for dinner.

  1. Country bakehouse is right in the Main Street of Spalding, corner of Main St & Eileen St & opposite the Spalding Barbed Wire Hotel.
  2. Guests can drive up Eileen Street & through the double gates to park privately undercover.
  3. A key will be left in the back security door for your arrival
  4. Country bakehouse is approx. 178 Km from Adelaide & 37 Km north of Clare on the RM Williams Highway.

Guests are welcome to enjoy all facilities at Country bakehouse.

We have a fully stocked convenient Country kitchen with a pergola, outdoor seating & BBQ area attached.

The residence is stylish & decorated with a mix of antique & modern furnishings.  Guests can enjoy a "home away from home" atmosphere and must treat our furnishings with respect & care.

No parties are to be held at Country bakehouse but friends can be invited (in small numbers up to 6) to have a BBQ or outdoor drinks.

If any invited guest needs to stay overnight the extra cost of $35 needs to be paid  for bedding supplied.

The tariff of $140 is for 2 adults sharing one queen bedroom & the facilities at the B&B.  Any extra bedrooms are an added cost of $35 pp.

Our laundry provided for your convenience is also our laundry.  We offer the use of it to you but would appreciate a gold coin donation towards the electricity costs which are high. You may use our soap powder.

Before leaving make sure that all towels are returned to the bathroom (or laundry) and dishes in the kitchen are washed, fridge clean & rubbish from the bin is placed in the out door (red lid) rubbish bin.

A pet dog is welcome to stay by negotiation by phone or email.  All dogs must have their own bedding and are required to sleep in the laundry area.  No dogs are permitted inside the bedrooms & lounge TV residence. We have a fully enclosed back garden area.

Terms & conditions

Our character B&B provides guests with a "Home away from Home" atmosphere & a convenient, fully stocked separate Country kitchen.

Our tariff of $140 / night applies to 2 adults (queen bedroom shared) & all facilities of TV, lounge, dining & kitchen. Extra bedrooms are available for your extra guests @ $35 pp /night.  Discounts are applied for 2 or more night stays. We take only one group at a time so your privacy is assured whether it is one couple requiring one queen bedroom or couples travelling together with children.  The entire home becomes your own home for the duration of your stay.

Booking in time is after 2.00pm & booking out time is 10.30 am.

A key will be left in the back security door for your arrival.

We ask guests to respect our building & furnishings & treat them with care.  Any breakages need to be reported to the owner & costs may apply.  Any damages caused by dogs need addressing & repairs made.  Before leaving the property all dog area need to be cleaned & the garden & pergola areas hosed down.

Please leave the key in the back security door when leaving.
