Pepper Tree Ridge - Self Contained Unit

Pepper Tree Ridge offers traditional B&B hospitality for up to 8, or self-contained accommodation for 2-3 adjacent to the main homestead.

The self-contained unit has a four-poster bed, ensuite, plus kitchen, dining, lounge areas, private verandah and entrance.

In the main homestead there are 4 large guest suites - 2 in each wing - which have access to private bathrooms.

Some rooms have french doors which lead on to the wide verandahs where guests can relax in privacy and enjoy the sweeping vistas over famed Razorback.

Our spacious guest rooms have queen sized beds, elegant antiques and period furnishings. The delicate cedar joinery and colourful stained glass windows give a very special ambience.

Curl up by the open fireplace in winter in the guests' lounge, or wind down with a book from the library on the sunny verandahs or in the garden under the gazebo.

Pepper Tree Ridge was built in the 1860s by the son of Alexander Berkeley Campbell, one of the pioneers of Stonequarry (Picton).

The name comes from the now century old pepper trees which grow around the homestead.

Set upon a ridge, the original house is Colonial/Victorian with double brick walls made from local materials. Originally the homestead was called Inverary, an extensive dairying property on the historic Razorback Mountain.

The verandahs, lofty rooms, and beautiful cedar panelled ceiling in the hallway are replicated in the sympathetic addition of an extra wing which makes extensive use of cedar joinery.

Your hosts Barry and Lucille McConville have travelled extensively seeking B&B accommodation in many different settings.

Their aim is to provide you with a unique homestay combined with the best of traditional B&B practices. Self-contained accommodation is also available.

Dinner in the formal dining room with fireside comfort, silver service and romantic oil banquet lamps is but one of their special touches. Again, breakfast is a meal for you to remember with a menu of traditional fare, continental, or special treats to tempt any palate.

Arrangements can be made to pick up guests arriving at Picton railway station.

Wedding Ceremonies and Corporate Retreats.

Pepper Tree Ridge has hosted many memorable wedding ceremonies in its extensive grounds. Guests can be seated under the spreading branches of the century old Peppercorn tree or be accommodated in the gazebo or marquee. The exclusive honeymoon suite is ideal for couples with the homestead being available for family members.

Short term corporate retreats and workshops can be arranged . Packages involving meals, accommodation and workshop space are available in relaxed and ameniable surroundings.

Local Attractions.

Razorback Mountain, once soaked with the sweat of labouring men, bullocks and horses and plagued by bushrangers, now sleeps serenely as host to the ever increasing number of visitors to the Wollondilly area.

Bush walking, hot iar ballooning, skydiving, visits to the rail heritage museum, nature reserves and a dingo farm are now more in keeping with the times. The town centres of Picton and Camden are a short drive away.

At Pepper Tree Ridge you will find room to move and your own space to wind down.

Take some time to explore the historic property, with its original fresh water well, windmill, and trails through 27 acres of farmland studded with native kurrajong, wattle, and paperbark trees.

At dawn or dusk you can see wallabies, foxes and rabbits, and there is always abundant native bird life.

How to find us.

Pepper Tree Ridge is below the summit of Razorback 12kms south of Camden, and 5 kms north of Picton on Remembrance Drive (Old Hume Highway).

From Sydney take the M5 south, then take the Narellan Road exit next past the Campbelltown turn off and head towards Camden; take the Camden bypass, which leads on to Remembrance Drive.

The green roof, windmill, and water tank can be seen to the left when coming down from the summit of Razorback.

From the South leave the F5 at the Picton turnoff. At Picton main street turn right and travel 5 kms to the base of Razorback Mountain.

Our entrance is at Apps Creek on the narrowest section of the roadway. (Caution: approach main gate with care in both directions; entrance is at a blind spot on the main road.)
