Barkala Farmstay

The Old Schoolhouse was originally built for the owners' children to attend correspondence school, but has since been transformed into self-catered accommodation with kitchenette and bathroom. The Old Schoolhouse sleeps up to 6 guests and is pet friendly.

Experience the enchanting octagonal "fairy tale castle", hand-crafted from local timbers. Relax and enjoy the beautiful views from the large, Swiss-style balcony, and take a shower in a hand-sculpted masterpiece!

There is also an in-ground swimming pool for keeping cool during the summer and a gas heater and electric blankets for staying warm and cosy in the winter. We have also recently installed a reverse cycle air-conditioner. The bedding configuration is a loft bedroom upstairs with a double bed and two double bunks downstairs. Sleeps up to six people. The Old Schoolhouse has a small kitchen with a fridge and gas stove/grill if you would like to bring your own food. There is also a BBQ area on the lower level with a lovely outdoor dining area.

Otherwise, we are happy to cater for all or some of your meals in our nearby Blue Wren Café, which is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as espresso coffee, milkshakes, scones and homemade cakes throughout the day.

Nestled between the orchard and the lightly wooded goat run, the Poet’s Cottage is secluded and peaceful, with a private driveway and parking in the rear of the building.

Featuring a fully equipped kitchen and spacious dining area, its open plan feel is warm and inviting. Stimulating natural timber beams and a hand crafted staircase give the living area the feel of a natural extension of the surrounding bush land.

Perfect for large families or groups, The Studio is a spacious, friendly and relaxing place to stay. It has 3 lovely and unique bedrooms, fitted with handmade beds and sleeps up to 15 people. The Studio is also pet friendly.

It has a large open-plan area with kitchen, dining and recreation area. There is a ping-pong table in the recreation area as well as a lounge area with television, games and books.

For winter there is a wood-heater (wood supplied) and in summer you are welcome to use our in-ground salt water swimming pool.

There are two toilets and a shared bathroom situated on the open verandah, which has couches and is a lovely place to relax and take in the rural view.

The Farmhouse is a beautiful European-style building with four rooms (upstairs), and our newest addition is a beautiful flat on the ground level called The Farmhouse Nest. The space makes you feel right at home, just like the many swallows we have nesting around. The Farmhouse Nest is a self contained unit where you can enjoy a fully equipped kitchen, your own bathroom and livingroom space. Each room has a ceiling fan a radiator to make it a comfortable choice all year round. There is outdoor seating, and a shared BBQ as well as parking near by. Part of the Farmhouse is used as a permanent residence for the owner family.
