Riverside Sanctuary Cabin

This is a very special private Retreat, a place to relax, recharge and dream…

The hexagon cabin is beautifully rustic, environmental, basic and off-grid. Every detail has been lovingly created, mostly from recyled materials, admist a lush, natural setting of ferns, flowers and tall trees that stretch to the sky; a lovely little forest-type setting.

There is a beautiful double highbacked outdoor bath amongst ferns (not available during late May - early September as it is too cold). There are filtered views of the mountains. Access to the clean river is only metres away for a swim, paddle, fishing, thinking time or a picnic. Or to ponder and watch ducks and platypus.

Go to sleep as the sun sets golden over the mountains, look at the stars through the glass skylight window, read, write or reflect by the fire or candlelight, wake up to bird song and a new day…in so many ways

...to do nothing or picnic or walk by the river or forests, climb a mountain, cycle the rail trail, browse the curio shops, relax in the cafes or dine in a variety of nearby places.

This is a neutral-carbon holiday when you stay here as it is totally off-grid and on solar and tank water, though we provide drinking water in bottles.

While there is no electricity (only solar lights) in the cabin, don't worry as the excellent cafes on the main street let you plug in your phones and laptops...if you really want to keep plugged in :-)

Driving: take the Warburton Hwy from Maroondah Hwy in Lilydayle. Go through Warburton and turn right into Riverside Drive.

The nearest airport is a 2 hour drive or coach trip. There is also a public transport way of getting there

For a real carbon-neutral holiday consider the ease of public transport: A bus that connects train passengers from Lilydale Station travels right into Warburton and within 2km of the Sanctuary.
Take the train to Lilydale station, then board the connecting 683 bus to Warburton, ask to get out at the Signs book publishing building. Riverside Drive is then almost diagonally opposite. Its a 2km walk to the Sanctuary. You can also take your bikes on the bus or bike to Warburton along the rail trail.

Everything in Warburton is within walking distance unless you want to get up to the Rainforest Gallery, the Ada Tree or the top of Mt Donna Buang (or it is a half to a full day walk by forest track or road, depending on fitness).

We booked this for a night over the grand final weekend. It was lovely, at night we could see the moon through the skylight above the bed. We were unable to use the fire heated bath due to the temperature needing to be over 18 degrees. There is no shower however there is a basin/mirror/tank water and undercover outdoor area with toilet, but if you are bushing it you can't expect much more and it was a top experience staying in a cosy cabin nestled up the trees. I am not sure how it would go in the middle of summer though, I imagine very hot! It was so nice waking up in the trees and freshness of nature. Inside the cabin was really sweet with freshly picked bulbs in a vase and candles. There is a spot to have a fire and sit around outside too, it's nice and private. If you are drinking you will have to walk to town and this is a nice walk it takes about 20 mins to walk there - no CABS in the area! 5/5 by , Gippsland
We had a great stay. Short and sweet, it was good to get of the grid and back to basics for a little bit. 5/5 by , Mornington, Victoria So glad you had a great time - it is a sweet natural little place. Please feel free to return any time x P [manager response]
The Riverside Sanctuary Cabin was lovely! It was in a beautiful and peaceful location that helped us relax as soon as we got there. We felt very supported by the owners, who were very easily accessible when we had questions or needed help. We could tell that a lot of love had gone in to creating such a lovely and welcoming place. The only things we were confused about were the details of the facilities there, maybe these could be made more clear on the web page?5/5 by , Melbourne, VIC
