Description

White House is a 110 year old two storey weatherboard mansion situated at 14 Formby Road, Devonport.

Upstairs apartment 2 offers great views through the front bedroom bay windows. The unit is fully self-contained with a funky retro style. The two bedrooms sleep up to 6. Two queen beds and foldout single beds. There is a combined bath and shower and central heating.

The house was originally built around 1900 as a manor home. After the second World War the building served as a local maternity hospital. In 1962 the property was extended and converted into 5 separate flats and painted white. It was referred to locally as the White House.

Two and a half years ago we found this grand old house in poor repair and at risk from developers. Our plan is to save the house and transform it into a unique accommodation destination on Tasmania's North Coast.

Stage one of our renovation is now complete and we're proud to offer 2 fully self-contained two-bedroom holiday apartments. Styling is funky retro and the atmosphere is relaxed.

Each apartment has its own private kitchen and bathroom and sleeps up to 6 people. All bedrooms contain a queen-size bed. Single bunk beds and fold-out beds are also included. Each bedroom has a TV & DVD player. Linen and Towels are provided as is tea, coffee, milk and breakfast cereal.

Our natural gas-fired central heating will make your winter stay cozy and warm.

Your hosts, Moira and Bill invite you and your family (and your pets) to a unique and memorable accommodation experience.

Stay for a night or stay for a week.

Our host was very friendly and the apartment beautifully clean. We had the upstairs suite, which was an interesting mix of funky retro and antiques in a beautiful big old house. For me the decorating worked, and was a great trip down memory lane. It's located on a busy street, with some road noise during the day, but the noise stopped when the business day stopped. The bed was lovely and comfortable, and it was nice to have a couch to sit on in the 2nd bedroom. The TV's are small, but you don't travel to watch TV do you? And there is one in each bedroom. It's conveniently located about a 3 minute drive to city centre, or about a 20 minute walk. The exterior of the house and property looked a bit tired when we arrived, but inside is what matters and it's fine. A good value, I'd stay again.
