Serenity Cottage - one of the quaintest cottages in the peaceful hamlet of Vivonne Bay, certainly lives up to its name! This elevated Western Red Cedar cottage provides a tree-top hideaway nestled amongst eucalypt trees and native coastal scrub and is located only 450m from the beach voted "Australia's best!"
Just a five minute stroll to the crystal clear, turquoise waters of Vivonne Bay and its stunning, long, white, sandy beach - a superb site for picnics, beachcombing, surfing, fishing or just taking a stroll along the beach or esplanade to take in the majestic scenery. Fishing from the jetty, beach, boat or nearby Harriet River mouth is excellent.
Kangaroo Island is a pristine wilderness - offering protection to substantial populations of native Australian animals. It is a place of unspoilt, natural, scenic beauty and the ideal place to escape, relax and unwind.
Vivonne Bay is centrally located on the South Coast of the island providing easy access via sealed roads to Kangaroo Island's most popular natural attractions. Serenity Cottage is an ideal base to explore Seal Bay, Kelly Hill Caves, Flinders Chase National Park, Remarkable Rocks and Admirals Arch - and is about an hour and a quarter's drive from anywhere on the island.
Other nearby attractions well worth a visit include: Raptor Domain (Birds of Prey & Fang-tastic); Rustic Blue Gallery & Cafe; Andermel Marron (marron farm, restaurant and cellar door) and Hanson Bay Wildlife Sanctuary.
Local business, KI Outdoor Action offers Quad Bike Guided Tours for both beginners and experienced riders. The best way to see an otherwise inaccessible part of Kangaroo Island. Their 'Wildlife Dusk Tour' guarantees you will see kangaroos up close in their natural environment - a highlight for anyone visiting the island.
Single or Double Kayaks are also available for hire. Paddle up to five kilometres of the calm and meandering Harriet River with a variety of birds and other wildlife. Relax as you enjoy the beautiful scenery.
Hire a sand board or toboggan from the Vivonne Bay General Store or KI Outdor Action and head over to the Little Sahara - a system of naturally occurring sand dunes. Covering approx. 2 square kilometres the dunes vary in size, with the highest dune approx. 70 metres above sea level. When visiting this iconic site, take only photographs and leave only footprints (and sandboard tracks).
The one bedroom renovated cottage sleeps two guests and provides a relaxed environment - ideal for a romantic getaway, a private retreat for one, or two close friends/family members travelling together.
The cosy bedroom has a queen size bed, with comfortable quilts and an electric blanket for the cooler season.
Serenity Cottage has a light filled, open plan kitchen/dining/living area with high cathedral ceilings and north-facing picture windows all around that draw the peaceful ambience inside.
A large, curved, stone-wall deck extends off the living area with easy access via french doors. This elevated, tree-top alfresco area offers an alternative place to sit, eat or relax.
The front verandah overlooks the garden and provides another spot to sit and enjoy the tranquility. There is plenty of bird life to watch and opportunities to spot possums and wallabies in the garden - especially at dusk.
The distinctive grey building with red front door and dry stone walling is quite unique. The cottage has recently been lovingly renovated with lots of quirky touches that add charm and immediate appeal.
The contemporary and fully equipped kitchen provides ample cupboard space, a full size fridge/freezer, oven/grill, cooktop, microwave, kettle & toaster - and all the cutlery, crockery, baking and cookware you could possibly need for a self-catered vacation for either a short or long stay.
Opposite the bedroom is a combined bathroom/shower/laundry. (Note: No washing machine)
The toilet is located at the rear of the building.
Although TV reception, internet and mobile phone coverage can be patchy on Kangaroo Island, Serenity provides a large screen TV with free-to-air satellite reception. Telstra mobile phones may receive some coverage at Serenity Cottage although other phone carriers may not have reception. A radio/CD player is also available.

"A delightful, private cottage in a beautiful, quiet area and a perfect base for exploring the beautiful south coast. It was lovely to be able to hear the birds calling in the morning and to sit out on the deck and watch them in the trees. Although this was only a short visit, we would love to stay again for longer. Serenity Cottage has everything anyone needs for a short or long stay and we highly recommend both the cottage and the area." ~ Sara
