About Port Lincoln LIONS CLUB Hostel

The hostel is situated on approx 1.5 hectares that was once the site of the North Shields Primary School. The site was first established as a Youth Hostel in 1973. Since then it has undergone major upgrades, rebuilding and refurbishment so that it is now a modern and comfortable, well equipped facility for group or individual stays, functions, conferences and un-powered camping. It is open all year round.

It is on the Lincoln Highway, 11 kms north of Pt Lincoln and 3km  south of the Port Lincoln Airport. It is located a short walk from the beach and jetty at North Shields. The local hotel, and roadhouse are also only a short walk from the hostel. There are many other local attractions to visit.

The Accommodation Block and Kitchen have recently been rebuilt by the Lions club of Port Lincoln after the 2005 Bushfires.  The Lions Club was recognized in the Australia Day Awards receiving the honour of COMMUNITY ORGANISATION OF THE YEAR 2007 for this project. The hostel is the perfect GET AWAY location in a quiet farming area, with camping, fishing, boating, a boat ramp, roadhouse and hotel all at North Shields.

Functions and Group Bookings

  • For group bookings, maximum numbers must be confirmed 7 days in advance (1 month in advance for Long Weekends). The fees charged will be for this number.
  • The Managers must be informed, at least 7 days prior to arrival, your expected arrival & departure time.
  • Any anticipated extra costs must be paid before 7 days prior to the function or group booking.

The Hirer will

  • Keep the site in a clean, tidy and hygienic condition.
  • Take all reasonable steps to prevent damage to the Hostel facilities.
  • Provide adequate supervision of those in their care to ensure safety and security of all people on the premises.
  • Not conduct any activity that is in breach of Law or regulations.
  • Leave the site in a clean and tidy condition.
  • No animals are allowed except Guide & Hearing dogs.
  • All caravans and campers must be self-reliant for power. No power cords are to be run from inside the buildings to the outside. (we now have very limited outside power points).
  • Provide own wood for bonfires if required. Bonfires are to be in a provided fire bucket or one approved by the Managers and used in the dedicated spot as appointed by the Managers.

Cancellations & Refunds

  • Notice of cancellation is appreciated at the earliest time possible so that the premises can be made available to other clients.
  • The following will apply to cancellations:

For all Accommodation Bookings:

For late cancellations (less than 60 days for bookings over Long Weekends, 30 days for all other times), no refund of deposit.

For all Function Bookings

  • An administration fee of $20 will be deducted from the deposit for cancellations made well in advance of the booking date before a refund is issued.
  • For cancellations less than 30 days prior to the booking, there will be no refund of deposit.
    • In exceptional circumstances the deposit may be refunded at the discretion of the Hostel Management Committee.

Serving of Alcohol

  • The Hostel must conform to State Government laws and regulations in regard to the responsible service and consumption of alcohol and other drugs.
  • The Hostel does NOT have a liquor license. If alcohol is to be sold at a function, or is served as part of a payment, the sponsoring organisation must obtain and display their own temporary license.
  • For private functions, where alcohol is not sold, or is not provided as part of a ticket price, no license is required but the person(s) holding the function have the responsibility to ensure they comply with State law.
  • We do not accept bookings for 18th & 21st birthday parties when alcohol is involved. In almost all cases in the past we have had considerable damage & littering. .



  • The Managers have the right to call the police and/or terminate the function, without refund of monies, if behaviour presents a danger to people or damage to our premises.
  • Security Guards may be required to be hired by the organiser(s) of functions, at the discretion of the Managers.
  • Evidence that Security Guards have been organised by the hirer(s) may be requested by the Managers.

Damage to Persons or Property

  • The Lions Club of Port Lincoln shall not be liable for any injury, damage or loss suffered by the client and their guests prior to, during or after an event.
  • The recommendation is that the function organiser(s) has their own insurance.
  • The Hirer will be held accountable for any injury to personnel employed by the Port Lincoln Lions Club (paid or voluntary) that is caused by neglect or misuse caused by the hirer(s), guests, or visitors during the event.
  • Any damage done to the property of the Port Lincoln Lions Club or Hostel will be repaired at the expense of the function organiser(s).
  • There is a charge of $100 to refill any miss-used fire extinguisher.
  • The Managers have the right to ask for a bond up to $500 at their discretion.
  • (this will be done by the client supplying us with credit card details as a security bond)
  • If any damage occurs, the credit card will be charged for the cost of any repairs or replacement of damaged items up to $500.
  • If no damage occurs the unused credit card slip will be returned to the client.

Loss or Theft

  • The Lions Club of Port Lincoln will not be responsible for the cost of theft, loss or damage to property or personal effects of the Hirer(s), their guests or visitors.
  • Property left behind will be kept for one month, then if not claimed will be donated to a charitable organisation.

Travelling from the north on the Lincoln Highway towards Port Lincoln we are on the right hand side of the Highway about half way through North Shields, opposite the CFS shed. There is a big sign up at the entrance to our driveway.

The manager's residence is the red brick house on the way up the driveway. You can either stop at the house or phone the manager who will meet you on site to book you in.

We don't accept individual booking when we have a group booked in.
