The apartments are conveniently located across from Wests Newcastle with on premises licensed lounge in King Street, and next to Papa’s Bagel Bar in Hunter Street. Within walking distance from Marketown Shopping Centre and Balance Gym, The Star Apartments are also close to the vibrant Honeysuckle precinct, many local cafes, restaurants, galleries, Newcastle’s Civic Theatre, gorgeous foreshore and beaches.

All accommodation room options feature split system air conditioning, fully equipped kitchen and cosy open plan living with leather lounges.

The Star History

Running between Hunter and King Streets, it is said to be about eight separate buildings joined together. Built by Queensland gold miner, Ewan Cameron in 1855, the hotel took advantage of the huge demand for accommodation for travellers and railway, coal and construction workers.

Since its conception the property has been passed on through the Cameron family until its sale in 2013. During this time the Star Hotel had a series of stables with horses and wooden cottages, which are no longer recognisable in the current design.

Over the decades the Star Hotel welcomed many types of guests from Professor Godfrey and his monkey circus to the famous Australian band, Cold Chisel. It has also been described throughout its history as being a rabbit warren of rooms even into the 1930s and 1940s.

RESPONSIBILITY OF GUEST: 

• The person providing the Credit Card Pre-authorisation is listed as a "principal guest". The principal guest is responsible for all matters to do with the apartment- any loss or damage done to the hotel or the apartment that can be reasonably attributed to the principal or others staying or visiting in the apartment.  

• The principal guest understands that any additional charges not paid at the time of check out will be taken from the funds held on check in. 

• The principal guest understands that the apartment must be left in the same condition as they received it. Any existing problems with the apartment on check in must be bought to the hotel staff’s attention, otherwise it will be assumed that you and your guests are the cause.

• You will also be required to present personal identification (driving license or passport), and a credit card, a copy of which will be held on your file. 

• You will be required to leave a pre-authorisation of $200 on your credit card to cover any charges made by the guests and visitors in the apartment and to cover any loss or damage done to the hotel or the apartment that can be reasonably attributed to you or your guests and visitors. Cash security bonds are not accepted. 

MISCONDUCT 

• The hotel reserves the right to cancel a booking or withdraw accommodation services from any principal guest and his or her guests and visitors in the apartment. If any of the principal guest's visitors or other guests sharing the apartment are unruly, uncooperative, disorderly or affected by alcohol or other drugs, or do not obey reasonable instructions from the hotel staff or comply with these hotel rules and signs.  

• The property enforces a strict NO PARTY POLICY, any noise reported after 10pm will result in the loss of your bond and you will also be asked to vacate the premises immediately. Any unused nights will be forfeited.

• The apartment is for the purposes of accommodation only. If a guest wishes to conduct any business on the premises or in the apartment, permission must first be sought from the properties general manager. 

• The property is a non-smoking property, however some outside areas of the property may be used by smokers. Guests who smoke in an apartment will be charged a cleaning fee of $350 and may be liable to compensate the hotel for lost revenue if the apartment cannot be prepared in time for the next guest. 

SERVICES 

• The hotel does not service apartments on a daily basis. However you can purchase housekeeping services by calling the hotel or arranging this at or prior to check-in. Bookings of seven nights or longer receive a weekly housekeeping service. 

Terms & conditions

Cancellation Policy

  • The hotel requires a minimum of 72 hours’ notice in the event you cancel the reservation to avoid any penalties. 
  • Full payment of the accommodation tariff is required 72 hours prior to arrival. 
  • To cancel a booking please e-mail or call us.

Upon booking, a deposit of the first night's tariff will be charged to your credit card. The balance of the accommodation charges will be processed 72 hours prior to arrival or upon check-in. All properties have a 72-hour cancellation policy. If the customer cancels within 72 hours of arrival, they forfeit the full amount of accommodation. If the accommodation is greater than 7 days the first week will be charged and no fee thereafter. Refunds can only be refunded back onto the credit card that was charged.

Newcastle Executive Apartments reception does not cash accept payments for accommodation charges. A valid credit card number is required upon check-in for all properties. Third party credit cards are not processed without written authorisation.

Rates maybe subject to change. All prices shown are in Australian dollars as this is an Australian owned and operated business.

  • Amex and Diners - 3.5% surcharge
  • Visa and Mastercard - 1% surcharge
  • Cash and Eftpos - no surcharge

Pre-Authorisation

  • For overnight stays a $100.00 pre-authorisation is charged to your credit card.
  • For all other reservations, pre-authorisation amounts are calculated at $50.00 per day for the length of your stay.
  • Pre-authorisation amounts are automatically released on the 7th day.

  • Up to 14 day stay = $18.00 per night
  • 14+ nights = $10.00 per night

For Crown on Darby

  • Up to 14 day stay = $15.00 per night
