Description

“Camphill Cottage” as it has been known in the district since 1860 - is not just a farm stay - it’s an echo of a time zone - one of confident simplicity, dramatic landscapes and birdsong chorus. Situated a five minute drive from the cafes, antique shops and old pubs of historic Rylstone, it is the ideal option for those seeking peace, privacy, space and authenticity.

This charming, rustic cottage offers two queen size bedrooms and a large mezzanine loft with two single beds (sleeping a total of six). All beds are endowed with quality manchester and electric blankets. The large living area is equipped with a cosy wood fire and reverse cycle air conditioner. A glass enclosed verandah on the northern side looks out over a large dam to the mountains and at sunset will still the buzziest mind. The eastern verandah looks toward original haysheds and horse stables from a bygone era.

The cottage is situated on a horse establishment where horses graze the green paddocks bound by post and rail fencing. The property dates back to the 1860s and had it’s origins as a blacksmith’s shop forging horse shoes, farm implements, carriage wheels and tools necessary for life in the Central West. The original stone “blacksmith’s forge” still stands to this day located on the 60 acre property.

The gardens are a mixture of native and deciduous trees and plants providing shade and habitat for native fauna such as wombats, wallabies and native birdlife.  The autumn colours are magniicent in traffic stopping reds, rusts, pinks, magenta and golds.

Activites we suggest are walks to explore:

  • Fern Tree Gully
  • Wollemi National Park (swimming, canoeing, birding)
  • Windemere Dam (swimming, fishing, waterskiing)

For “Birders”:

  • Breakfast Creek Road (walking distance)

House rules

We pride ourselves on making all efforts for a safe and happy stay for our guests.  To that end we strictly observe the safety of children.  This is a farm with dams that are unfenced.  Children are welcome, however they must be supervised to ensure their safety.  This includes around the fire, and around the house yard, incase they venture off toward dams.  Dogs are welcome but are strictly by negociation.  We love our dogs and understand that others are the same, but we ask that owners make sure they are not on the furniture or beds.  There is ample space for dogs to enjoy the outdoors, and we ask guests to observe the safety of their dogs as this is a farm and farm animals can become frightenend if dogs chase or bark at them.  Usually common sense is all that is needed to avoid any mishaps or accidents.  A cleaning fee of $50 will be charged for guests with dogs.

Terms & conditions

Public holidays (long week-ends) there is a minimum three night's stay.  Price $250 per night for 4 guests ($50 pp per night) for additional guests.  School holidays rate is $250 per night (Mon-Sun).   Deposit of 20% is required to secure booking with the balance to be paid one month priour to stay.  Cancelations will incur a 50% penalty less than 14 days prior to booking.  Cancelations made after 14 days will not be refunded.

"Tidy, clean & a country feel. Beds were very comfortable. Janet was great, nothing was too much." A great base to explore the area. Enjoyed Yum Cha in Rylstone for lunch. Dinner at the Globe hotel was fun, generous portions. Dunns Swamp was gorgeous. Mudgee via Lue was a fabulous drive...lunch at Moothi Estate was great, shared plates & delicious wine. Camphill Cottage was extremely comfortable, warm & toasty inside. Kids slept really well. Loved feeding the horses & walking the property. Even tired out our Boarder Collie. Janet was a jem, very knowledgeable of the area & catered to all request.

"Fantastic Getaway Spot" We had such a great weekend at Camphill Cottage, the location is perfect, so close to town but feels like you are miles from anywhere. The cabin is well equipt with good heating, linen and cooking needs. Janet was a great host and nothing was too much trouble, the kids (and adults) loved checking out the horses and being a part of feeding time. We all loved the town of Rylestone and a trip to De Beaurepaire Winery is a must. We are already planning our next trip!

"Big country experience full of small pleasures" A cozy log fire, essentials in the fridge, a long dining table that beckons “let’s eat in”, underfloor bathroom heating and clear nights for star gazing are just some of the thoughtful inclusions and features we enjoyed during our stay at Camphill Cottage. We did walks in nearby Wollemi National Park , drank great coffees at Rylstone cafes, joined friendly locals for happy hour at the pub, rummaged through second hand shops and visited nearby olive groves and wineries. It was hard to fit everything into our 4 days at the Cottage.
