Nestled on the side of a hill in the Macquarie River goldfields is this unique, secluded retreat with exclusive access to 70 hectares and river frontage. It has breathtaking views over the river valley. This is an ideal place for writers and artists or for families wanting to take time out to reconnect with nature or to experience living in the bush before they buy.

Located just 30 minutes from the regional cities of Bathurst and Orange, you can explore the local wineries and visit the early gold mining towns of Hill End and Sofala, or see where gold was first discovered at Ophir on your way into Orange.

Comfortably furnished, this home has both a gas and a wood fueled stove, dishwasher and front loader washing machine. There is an outdoor kitchen as well as a gas BBQ on the deck. A Telstra mobile connection and a satellite broadband service are available at the premises. Grab a book from the upstairs library and snuggle up by the open fire while you enjoy the view from the lounge room window on those cold, winter days.

This home is ideal for children and the ground floor is wheelchair accessible. There are toys and games to play, a trampoline and a recently constructed tree house. Our DVD collection provides a selection of movies for children and adults.

Upstairs is a library, office with a futon sofa bed and two bedrooms with queen sized beds. Downstairs is the children's room with double decker beds and trundle with a queen sized bedroom next door. Another bedroom with a double sized bed is off the lounge area.

The bathroom has a shower and a large bath with the laundry off the kitchen. Please note water restrictions apply during the dry season for use of the bath as we use rainwater.

No recreational motor bikes or quad bikes are allowed on this property. Shooting and hunting is strictly prohibited because we love our wildlife and they too have a right to live in this very quiet, special place.

"Truly a home away from home." This was a very last minute booking for a 4 night getaway with the extended family to escape the city. Marje was very kind to alter her own family's Christmas plans to accommodate us and we were very grateful. We followed Marje's directions and found the place no problem and the house and property were beautiful, the newly installed aircon was a big plus as well. The kitchen was well equipped and had everything we needed - we forgot cooking oil, open the cupboard there it is; we felt like pancakes one morning, open another cupboard and all flour and the baking supplies we needed, even tapioca flour! The walk down to the river took a lot longer than 10 minutes, probably because of the heat but we went down the next day with the 4WD and managed fine. The river was gorgeous, so nice and cool and we felt like the only people on earth! A wonderful experience and would highly recommend to anyone looking to recharge. Thanks Marje.

"A peaceful and comfortable bush retreat" On a hill overlooking the Macquarie River, this is a true bush retreat with visiting wildlife and absolute peace and quiet. The house has magnificent views, is spacious and comfortable with a fantastic kitchen if you like cooking. The deck overlooks the Macquarie Valley and has seating for 10, a sun lounge, BBQ and umbrella so you actually don't have to go inside if the weather's fine! We also went on two of the recommended walks with our dog, one along the valley road and one to the property's river frontage. Both were full of great views, wildlife and complete peace. We did not see another person or vehicle on the road. Pets are welcome at the house and the deck is perfect for them as well as it can be secured off so they don't wander and also has a protected area with a roof where a raised pet bed and water are kindly provided. Marje was lovely to deal with, a generous and interesting person. I would recommend this retreat to anyone wanting or needing to get away from it all.

"Amazing property with everything you could wish for." Our stay at On The Stone was wonderful. The property is a true refuge from a busy world, with plenty of nature and lovely walks. We stayed as a family of four with a 4 and 6 year old who loved the tree house. Definitely a big win, they even hoisted there picnic lunch up in the bucket so they could enjoy a kids only lunch date. The house itself is very spacious and well equipped. Comfy beds and amazing views. The decking area with BBQ and outside setting for 10 was perfect for a GnT whilst watching wedgetail eagles flying over the mountains. Wonderful rural living with all the comforts you need. The roaring fires were blissful on the chilly evenings and we enjoyed the adventure of cooking a roast in the “ olde world” wood fired Oven/stove. Thank you Marje for sharing your retreat it was great.

- Sydney,

On the Stone Retreat was a wonderful, cosy house to spend a long weekend. We especially enjoyed listening to the record collection by the fire playing board games. On the Stone Retreat is well equipped with everything you need for a break in a great location. David and family
