There are stunning views over the valley, abundant wildlife right at your door. The bird life is immense and king parrots will eat out of your hand. There are bellbirds in the adjacent forest for beautiful sounds during the day. Unfortunately because of the fragility of the native fauna, pets are not allowed on the property.

There are numerous outdoor activities such as bushwalking, horseriding, fishing, tennis and swimming on the property. Close by in Dungog township, there are interesting shops to browse through, an historic cinema and an excellent golf course that welcomes visitors.

The house is situated 20 mins from Dungog on sealed roads and there is only  1km of well-kept dirt road from the road to the house. The property is right next to Chichester Dam and State Forest.

Picturesque Chichester State Forest is located in the Lower Barrington Tops and offers free picnic and camping grounds, the majority located near creeks/rivers.

Telegherry, Frying Pan, Currawong and Coachwood camping areas are located in the lush south-eastern side of the forest, best accessed from Dungog. White Rock, Old Camp and Pademelon Park are camping areas on the south-western side of the forest, best accessed from Gresford. Allyn River Forest Park, also in this area, is a great place for a picnic whilst the famous Ladies Well swimming hole is within a short distance of camping areas.

There are a few ways to get to Dungog but below is one using mostly main roads. Alternatively you can go through Maitland/Paterson or via Morpeth (to Clarencetown) which is a historic river town where you can stop at one of the many cafés.

Directions from Sydney and Newcastle
From Sydney take the freeway north. Continue right to the end of the freeway and turn right at the roundabout with the sign Taree right. Follow that road across the overpass and you will veer left onto the New England Highway.

You will then see the sign Taree left over the Hexham Bridge. Take the left turn here and proceed on the Pacific Highway. You will then see a sign to Raymond Terrace on the Pacific Highway. Follow the Pacific Highway to the Raymond Terrace McDonald's. At McDonald's you will see the sign Dungog left, turn left and follow the road through Seaham and Clarencetown and all the way to Dungog.

When you come into Dungog, go through the town centre and you will come to a concrete memorial in the middle of the road. Turn left at the memorial- the sign says Chichester Dam left. Veer right at the top of the hill at the Caltex service station (The Caltex Service Station is the last stop for petrol) to Chichester Dam.

Continue straight ahead on this road for 20 kilometres.
Do not turn left at the Salisbury Road turn Off.

Pass the entrance to the Barringtons Country Retreat, don't go into their Reception.  Just a few metres further after the horse yard, take the next gate to the left labelled Barrington Wilderness Estate.
The first property you pass is Bluegums Cabins on the right .  Continue on the dirt road that goes down hill and then climbs back up . At the top of the rise there is a road to the right.  Take this -  Gumnut Cottage (No 4) is the second house on the right hand side.
